Abstract
Total 732 cases of open heart surgery and the other 144 cases of non-open heart surgery were performed at Sejong General Hospital in 1993.
Among the 732 cases of the open heart surgery, 510 cases were congenital heart diseases and 222 cases were acquired heart diseases and the ratio was 2.3:1.
In congenital heart disease, 358 cases were acyanotic and 152 cases were cyanotic.
VSD was the leading acyanotic CH(58.7%), the others were ASD(25.7%), ECD(3.9%), PDA(1.7%), and TOF was also the most common in cyanotic CHD(44.7%), the others were PA(12.5%), UVH(9.9%), TAPVR(7.9%).
Acquired heart disease consisted of 167 cases of valvular heart disease, 44 cases of ischemic heart disease, 6 cases of aortic disease.
Among 144 cases of non-open heart surgery, modified B-T shunt was the most common (43) and was followed by PDA ligation(33), pacemaker insertion etc.
The operative mortality rate was 8.2% in congenital heart disease and 3.6% in acquired heart disease and overall mortality rate was 7.0%.
